Transportation Study Group
Mission Statement
The committee reports directly to the Board of Supervisors. It is convened to work both on special research projects as assigned by the Board of Supervisors, but is authorized to meet independently on projects consistent with their mission. The committee provides formal recommendations to the Board, Planning Commission, and other groups as declared necessary by the Board of Supervisors. The committee is charged with studying the whole issue of our road infrastructure, in particular with regards to how land use relates to our transportation network, and ensuring the adoption of a sound County Thoroughfare Plan in conjunction with the update of the Comprehensive Plan. The committee should consider the short and long term vision and strategy for all transportation corridors, including recommendations for ordinance amendments and additions/changes to the Comprehensive Plan.
The committee is both a tactical and technical resource as well as a strategic resource to secure the Powhatan County Transportation Six-Year Plan and identify future recommendations for plans to carry Powhatan County into the future to handle our transportation needs to 2020 and beyond.
